Washington Mutual in Computer World

Friday, July 28th, 2006

Thank you Computer World! I griped and groaned about the outage enough that they did an article about it! Click the title above to jump to the article. I sure hope this teaches them to ignore their customers.

Maybe they also learned how -not- to roll out new features…

Oh, and it’s still down. Wamu officially denies it had anything to do with a .Net install. I seriously doubt that, but whatever happened, it’s inexcusable.

This isn’t a blog, or a store, or an auction site…. this is my money. When you hide the truth, and dodge your customers, you become untrustworthy, and I don’t want someone like that controlling my money.

Wamu Still Down, Kinda

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

Lord have mercy! How am i suppose to pay my bills?

The account login works, but no billpay. So what? I can look at my money, but I can’t use it?

I can’t believe that no one has made a news story about this yet. There has to be thousands upon thousands of customers out there without service.

I called their customer services line. This time they were -aware- there was a problem (that’s the word they used, “aware”) but they did not have information on when it would be resolved.

Listen. If you put a new system into production, and it fails, you roll back to the old system! You don’t just sit there with it in production. You don’t allow there to be a service outage! My boss would have fired me by noon monday, and had someone roll it back for my stupid ass.

I’m not the only one around that’s calling foul, and I won’t be the only one shopping for a new bank. I also fully expect Wamu to pay my late fees.

Oh, and thank you Micro$oft; No doubt your quality software (ASP .Net) comes into play in this fiasco.

Washington Mutual Website… Crap?

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

For the last few days, account access at the Washington Mutual (wamu) website has been flaky, even by their standards! It’s usual to try to login and get a “Service not available” error, or be prompted to call Customer Care. Since Sunday, not only has it been almost impossible to login, once you’re in account access, the most important services like say “Bill Pay” are not available!

Sources on the Internet, and friends that are close to the company point to an ASP .Net migration that was planned to occur over the weekend. Obviously it has gone VERY bad.

I wouldn’t normally be so upset about wamu being down, at this point it’s almost a fact of life. The fact that they allowed it to be down for such a long period of time AND at the end of the months ( I have bills dammit!) is wearing on me.

I have -nothing- against ASP, or .Net, but being a PHP programmer, it’s hard not to point and laugh.

And Now for Something Completely Different…..

Woah. So alot of changes at work. Head of the department is now moving to another department, and our new manager is Diane! Yay! Boy is there going to be some changes. The next few weeks will be very exciting.
As of Monday, I will be assuming Diane’s responsibilities as Web Administrator. I don’t go to work one Friday… BAM, they change everything!!
Still no design, but soon. Very soon.
I -heart- mookity.

Peace out.

Back at Work!

So nice to be working again. :) I missed waking up early and working 9 hours a day…. No really!!
For your viewing pleasure, this is the Portal technology Valve has licensed.
New design is coming, swear!

Nothing Doing

Friday, July 14th, 2006

Hi all. I don’t have much to say. I feel abit better today. I’ll admit, I can’t wait to get back to work on monday. All of this home time is making me abit punchy.
I’d like to welcome Aubrey Huff to the line-up. He should bring a much needed bat to the home team.
And just for fun, the word of the week: Headbutt

Sick Sucks

Thursday, July 13th, 2006

Well, I’ve been sick all week, and haven’t felt up to posting anything.
I believe Cathy has made me one mock-up design for this blog, but that also has been neglected because of my illness. Hopefully I’ll feel better by this weekend, and (between catching up on work) I’ll be able to throw some content up here.
For your entertainment, here is a purported ILM test real from Transformers. I had no idea they were doing a movie!!

Moving Right Along…

Friday, July 7th, 2006

Foot-loose and fancy free! -_- Enough of that.

It’s Friday, so I only had to work a half day. However, I got home and promptly logged back on to work to finish some stuff. Seems all that came out of this new schedule is me working an extra hour everyday…

The new design for this site is being worked on as we speak. I have outsourced said design to the genius of my co-worker Cathy. (examples of her work include this and this.) I gave her little direction, but I’m positive she will do an excellent job.

The first article for the site will be posted soon. It’s already completed, but I want to wait for the new design.

Until next time…

First Post!

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

Gotta love those idiots that write in the comments and say nothing but FIRST POST! Inevitably they are beat out by someone who has a real post to make, and thusly look stupid… and late. I found this annoying, so I created my own blog, where I always have first post!

I plan to place here my opinions, suggestions and personal perspectives on everything from what I do as a Web Developer with the University of Houston, to topics like php security, Apache production environments, MySQL administration, and politics (that one fits in well, trust me). So sit back, relax, and enjoy some good blogging.

Oh… And ignore the clouds, they are to be very quickly replaced with… a real design.

Cheers!
